Biography |
Charles McGavren (b. 1949, Omaha, Nebraska) had early artistic inclinations encouraged by a civil engineer grandfather; an amateur portrait artist mother; and a cartographer father. After earning a journalism degree in 1971, he sold advertising for newspapers in Iowa and Nebraska. In 1989 he earned a business degree while managing projects for a regional newspaper, the Omaha World-Herald. Later pursuits in graphic design and proposal writing let him retire in 2017 to pursue a BFA and art career. He gained recognition for his work in the 2021 Nebraska Artist’s Biennial and the 2022 Concurrence fine print literary portfolio. His academic work concludes in 2023 with research presentations at the Student Research and Creative Activity Fair and the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries, the UNO Art Club spring exhibition Salon de Printemps, the annual Juried Student Art Show, and a thesis exhibition of figurative paintings. |
